Golden grilled bread hugs juicy patties and melty cheese in these crave-worthy patty melts.

# Everything You’ll Need:

→ Patties

01 - 1 lb ground beef
02 - 1 tsp garlic powder
03 - 1 tsp onion powder
04 - Salt and pepper to taste

→ Sandwich Assembly

05 - 8 slices sandwich bread (white, sourdough, or rye)
06 - 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or 8 slices
07 - 4 tbsp mayonnaise or softened butter
08 - Optional: caramelized onions, mustard, or pickles

# Steps to Cook:

01 - In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Divide into four equal portions and shape into thin patties matching the bread shape.
02 - Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each patty for 3–4 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked. Set aside.
03 - Spread mayonnaise or butter on one side of each bread slice. Layer cheese, a cooked patty, optional extras, and another layer of cheese between unbuttered sides. Top with a second slice of bread, buttered side out.
04 - Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the skillet and grill for 2–3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula until golden and cheese is melted.
05 - Slice sandwiches in half and serve immediately with chips, pickles, or a simple salad.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - Use a lid while grilling to help melt the cheese faster without burning the bread.
02 - Shredding your own cheese yields better melting results and flavor.
03 - Caramelized onions, hot sauce, or pepper jack can be added for variation.
