Bananas Foster Cobbler (Printable Version)

Warm bananas caramelized in brown sugar and spices topped with a flaky cobbler crust.

# Everything You’ll Need:

→ Banana Foster Base

01 - 4 ripe bananas, sliced
02 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
03 - 0.75 cup packed brown sugar
04 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
05 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
06 - 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
07 - 1 tablespoon dark rum (optional)
08 - Pinch of salt

→ Cobbler Topping

09 - 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
10 - 1 tablespoon baking powder
11 - 0.75 cup granulated sugar
12 - 0.5 teaspoon salt
13 - 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
14 - 0.5 cup buttermilk
15 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

# Steps to Cook:

01 - Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a 9-inch baking dish without greasing.
02 - Melt 1 tablespoon unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat until bubbling. Add sliced bananas and gently toss for about 1 minute until they begin to soften.
03 - Stir in packed brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt carefully to avoid mashing the bananas. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes until sugar melts into a caramel sauce.
04 - Remove skillet from heat and stir in vanilla extract and dark rum if using. The mixture may sizzle slightly. Ensure bananas remain soft but intact. Pour mixture into prepared baking dish.
05 - In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in cold unsalted butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract until just combined.
06 - Spoon the cobbler topping evenly over the banana foster base in the baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25 minutes until the topping is golden brown.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - Use fully ripe bananas for optimal sweetness and flavor.
02 - Buttermilk can be substituted with whole milk mixed with lemon juice (1 tablespoon lemon juice per 0.5 cup milk).
03 - Dark rum is optional and can be omitted for a non-alcoholic variation.
