# Everything You’ll Need:

→ Base

01 - 1 big sweet onion, sliced thin
02 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
03 - 1 tablespoon olive oil

→ Aromatics and Cooking Liquid

04 - 2 cups beef broth
05 - 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped up
06 - 1/4 cup dry white wine

→ Main Component

07 - Black pepper, to taste
08 - Salt, to taste
09 - 450 grams gnocchi

→ Garnishes and Serving

10 - 8-10 toasted French bread slices
11 - 100 grams grated Swiss or Gruyère cheese

# Steps to Cook:

01 - Grab some of that cheesy gnocchi fresh from the oven and scoop it up with your crunchy bread slices.
02 - Toss it all in the oven at 200°C. Wait 20 to 25 minutes until the top is bubbly and looks perfectly golden.
03 - Taste and tweak with a bit of salt and pepper. Move everything into a greased medium baking dish and give it a shower of that shredded cheese.
04 - Drop in the gnocchi and let the whole thing bubble over medium heat while you stir now and then. Give it 5 to 10 minutes, so the sauce thickens and the gnocchi is soft.
05 - Splash in the white wine and scrape up any tasty brown bits. Stir in the thyme and pour in the beef broth, then let it gently bubble away.
06 - Set your oven to 200°C. Let the butter and olive oil melt in a big skillet or a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add your onion slices and stir them now and then so they get super brown and full of flavor, about 20 minutes.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - Let your onions go nice and slow until they're super deep brown—it really builds up flavor.
